i wish i went to see lofsky at the rex tonight. curious how it would have made me feel. I did enjoy staying home and reading and doing some tinkering on the computer. sometimes it is the right thing to do.

of course, i always hope that people dont make that choice when its my gig. haha.

typing is a truly amazing feat when you think about what your brain and fingers are doing eh?

I took Dylan to see the jays tonight. free tickets. wow, different game when sitting in the third row. We sampled every sugar based food available to us and I couldnt resist a little barley and hops.

good fun. a night to remember. (we only made it to the seventh inning when they were up 12-4)

I find it amusing how one can enjoy music they despised a little more than a year ago. yes, I am talking about myself again here at my little blog, on my little computer, with my little self centered brain...

the music in question is that of Kurt Rosenwinkel. I saw him play live in Vancouver a couple summers back and despised the concert. So much so that I walked out halfway through. It was extra interesting as one of my bandmates stayed and completely adored the music.

So, here we are 2004 (summer) and i (never one to give up) put on the cd of that band (which someone gave me shortly after that show). I like it. I really do. I always knew he was a really good guitarist but I didnt like his compositions or much of his improvising. Well, never trust me for opinions I suppose. I like it now quite a bit. Somew really innovative and beautiful guitar playing.

I guess this is a good thing. The willingness to change and/or admit i was wrong. I suppose I wasnt wrong, I just felt differently and heard things differently back then. In some ways it is not unlike the way it takes numerous listens to a Cd when you buy it to really enjoy it and then eventually love it!

Anyways, way to go Kurt. i hope I have another chance to hear you play live.

I was going to practise tonight...really. Until dylan decided he wouldnt sleep. rats. now I am tired and feeling a bit lazy.

I am looking forward to saturday night. The Scream on a high note, jazz musicians improvising + five great poets. It is at 8pm at Mike Hansen's New Work Studio. www.thescream.ca

I just remembered that roger turner is in town and performing tonight. rats. the tired and lazy part is not going to help me get out the door. will look for the details in an email....

hmmm, must not forget to blog, just because of the nice weather. I get more and more feedback from people reading. Please send emails, I always enjoy knowing you are reading!

Had so much fun in the last few days. Last night was great, nice summer night on my bike, caught the Vandermark 5 at the NFB. they sounded great. end of a tour is always the time to hear a band. fun to hang out after at a local watering hole too. I think the friends that showed up where as or more important to my experience than the great music. (I do wish they played something from the recent record I bought....good for me to remember as a leader)

today was Andy Milne's Dapp Theory. I like the band he is touring with. the emcee sounds great. I liked the untitiled tune that may as well be called SOS. When they are playing funky, open type things, with all improvising beyond the written stuff they are at their best.
