Had a good time at Paul Dutton's Cd launch last night. Really enjoyed hearing him with Rob and Tomas. We are really lucky the Tranzac club exists these days. there is so much stuff that happens there....I am not sure where else it would happen. Today was really a day to forget. So much craziness in this house. Our kids seem wound up like timebombs these days. I have to wonder if we are doing something wrong. I find they live the life of artists already. (I realize how ridiculous that sounds but....) Their highs are so high but their lows are rock bottom. We seem to be able to go from paradise to hell in ten seconds. (maybe that is the name of my autobiograpy) Paradise to Hell in Ten Seconds; the life of an artist as parent.

I did find it really weird that there were no people from the local poetry scene at Paul's show last night. I still find it inspiring somehow when Michael Snow is in the room...especially just showing up as a listener. Heh...if it's good enough for MS...

Heh! good fun on my gig out of town last night. Back to my homeland; Burlington!! (I should have brought a trio arrangement for my tune Burlington....from Rob Clutton's Holstein Dream Pageant. Not sure it would work as a trio.....hmmm maybe.

Fun to play some of Chris Cawthray's arrangements of pop tunes. It turned out to be a lot of travelling now that I don't have a car but Chris and Mike are fun guys to hang out with. Also nice to be treated well by the people at the club. (shouldn't it always be that way!?)

Looking forward to doing it again next Thursday.

I got into one of those fun discussions at the pub tonight regarding; Canadian Music. Is there a Canadian sound to jazz-like music? Is there a Toronto sound? Vancouver? Is the rest of the world interested? I was pointing out that probably the best thing we can do is stop talking about it. (sad, because it is a fun topic) Do you think that the folks in Amsterdamn get together and talk about whether people like their music...? they probably, actually talk about THE music.

There is a very New York sound these days. I wonder if it could be like that for Toronto....see...here i go again!

this whole music biz thing is a little over rated if you ask me...hahah.. Ok, I am just tired of emailing etc. I am going downstairs to listen to my old furnace hum and play some notes on the old archtop!

Over and out!
